Chapter 4LunchAt lunch, I met up with my sister, having lunch with her. “Sister?” I interrupted her conversation about some stupid biology project. I could no longer catch up with the suspense. “Yes?” Rosalie smiled. Never as warm as Caroline. “Do you know who Caroline Mckessise is?” She was taken aback by the name. Her friend, whom I only know as David answered my query, “Caroline? You a freshman? Is it possible?” He started grinning from ear to ear. Rosalie beat him on his cheek and then turned to me. “Caroline is one of the most popular girl in school. She’s rich, pretty and smart. Even I am envious of her.” I nodded my head. David put his hands around my sister’s waist. “Come on, don’t be so jealous. You’re also smart and pretty.” “Did you talk to her today?” I replied instantly. “Yes.” David choked. “She never talks to freshman. She says they’re too immature.” He said, trying to imitate her voice. “Yes.” Rosalie added. “Demi was an exception.” David said, squeezing Rosalie’s hand. Rosalie looked strained, as though on the verge of tears. “Please, don’t talk anymore.” Rosalie pleaded. David pecked on her cheek and reassured her. “No more sad stories. Now, stop crying.” Rosalie wiped her face with the back of her hand. “I’m fine.” “Rosalie?” “Yes, Alana?” “To be friends with Caroline… is it considered as a privilege?” David smiled again. “It is not only a privilege, my dear, it is an honor.” Rosalie patted my cheek. “Can you imagine being in the coolest group in school?” David added. “Well, with my capabilities, I can.” I said with a smirk on my face. “Some friendship destroys you future, Alana.” Rosalie said, with her head hung low. I ignored her and started walking towards Caroline’s table. All I could hear was Rosalie mumbling. “She needs to know about Demi. She needs to know.” David calmed her down by saying, “Yes, I know.”
“Girls?” Caroline called out to her beautifully dressed friends. All of them diverted their attention to me. Caroline stood up and pulled me by my waist towards her. “Meet Alana. She’s my new-found friend.” Caroline said, smiling at me. The gorgeous looking girls grinned delightfully. Then, Caroline gestured at me to take a seat. “Alana, meet Marilyn, Anabel, Steffi and Sarah. ” Upon hearing their names, each of them winked at me faintly. I smiled back. Then, everyone tucked into their food after Caroline and Marilyn excused themselves.
