Chapter 3An unsolved mysteryMath was pretty boring. Mr Goff was caught in a meeting so he assigned us some work to do. “Stupid geometry.” I heard Eleanor say. But in the end, she finished her work within ten minutes and she ditched lessons to go find her cute junior. I inferred that she flirted with the nerd sitting in front to help her do her work. I decided to do the same. My victim would be Carl. He was sitting right in front of the teacher’s table and was busy punching in numbers into his calculator. Dressed in a light blue shirt, black pants and black-rimmed spectacles, he looked ridiculous, compared to me. But I had no choice. I was desperate to get of this freaking class. So, I walked up to him with my assignment. “Carl?” I called in a soft voice. He immediately turned around. “Yes, Alana? You need help with geometry?” I was surprised that he knew name and could read my thoughts too. “Yes. I’m afraid this is too difficult.” I said, placing my hand gently on his shoulder. Blood rushed to his face. “Oh, which question?” He asked, fiddling with his spectacles. “Oh, Carl.” I patted him gently and brushed his face with the back of my hand. “I doubt I can finish this. Can you help me?” I asked in a honey sweet voice. “Oh sure, sure.” He mumbled, clearly mesmerized. I smiled seductively. “Thanks Carl.”
I skipped merrily out of the stuffy classroom and caught a glance of a girl leaning casually against the wall with one leg propped up. She looked as if she was waiting for someone. When I opened my locker, I heard someone walking up to me. I whisked my head around in response. “No need to worry.” She patted my shoulder as she gave me warm smile that squeezed my heart. I grinned delightfully. “Yes?” I asked courteously as I glanced at her figure. She was curvy, and her red tube flaunted them. Her black shorts also exposed her toned thighs. Her high heels were limited edition from Guess. “Wow” I muttered. “Yes? You like my shoes?” she said, guessing my thoughts. “They’re gorgeous.” “Why, thank you.” She smiled again. Such a friendly girl, I thought.
“I realized that you’re pretty good with the boys. You know, Carl and the bunch of nerds?” She said as she gestured at the classroom. I blushed immediately. I felt hot. “Am I right?” She prompted. No one else, except for the flirts, realized that I was good. I felt embarrassed and yet proud. “Yup.” I nodded. “Well, would you mind shopping with me for new clothes?” She smiled. “I don’t get you.” Why would this girl want to shop with me for clothes? Surprisingly, she didn’t get frustrated or impatient. “You enjoy flirting?” The questions were direct. “Yes.” “You like being in the spotlight?” “Yes.” “You like new clothes?” “Why, which girl doesn’t?” She laughed melodiously. For the first time, I looked at her in the eye and took notice of her flawless face. Her face was fair and her lips were luscious red, her eyes, glittery blue brought the color of the dark brown wavy hair. She was almost perfect.
“So, would you mind being my friend?” I was taken aback. Why would this gorgeous junior or even senior want to befriend this flirty freshman? “Is there a contract?” I asked, cautiously. She grinned widely, exposing her pearl white teeth. “No, of course not. No terms. No harm, trust me.” She held out my hand and patted me again. Her blood was cold. I wasn’t very sure. She gave a warm smile again. “I suppose you have siblings. Ask her about me. I’m Caroline Mckessise. I’ll see you at lunch later.” I nodded quietly. Then, she grinned and pranced away.
I was desperate to know more about his mysterious girl.

Chapter 2Green and Red“Alana!” Someone called out while I was packing my stuff into the locker. School was terrible. No one commented on my outfit or even notice me. The juniors were all engrossed talking among themselves while the other freshmen were busy finding their classes. Eleanor was the first. “Oh, hi.” I looked disappointed as I admired her outfit. Eleanor was clad in a pink tube ruffle dress and a denim coat over her shoulders. The dress flaunted her curves and exposed her collarbones. She indeed looks like a princess. “Can you believe it? One junior, Jasper commented on my jacket today! He’s so cute!” she was practically jumping up and down. I was jealous. Anger built inside of me as I tried to keep calm. “Good for you. I need to go for class now.” I hissed as I looked at my timetable. “Ok then.” Eleanor said with a smirk on her face as she tried to flirt with a freshman next to me. I was clearly irritated.
Lessons passed in a blur. English, Literature and then Math. No one took notice of me except for Mr Fred. He kept on staring at me during Literature. Half-way through the lesson, Christine whispered at the back of my head. “I think he’s ogling at you. He’s attracted. Try to flirt later.” I turned behind and grinned at her. After the lesson, I walked up to Mr Fred, curled my hair and gave him that angel-look. Mr Fred almost walked into the locker when I pranced away. Christine was laughing like a mad dog when I recounted the incident. “Mr Fred’s such a pervert! He’s so old!” “Precisely! Old enough to be my grandfather!” We laughed harmoniously. “Why don’t let’s try flirting with those nerdy freshmen there?” I said, gesturing at the bunch of kids by the office. “Sure! I’ll call Nicole too.” “More the merrier.” I declared. Christine grinned and walked back to the classroom.
“Come on, this is so going to be so easy. Look at me.” I said as I took one step forward. When I approached the boys, I dropped my files on ‘accident’. Two boys scurried to my side and picked them up for me. Immediately, I tried to lengthen my eyelashes and winked at them. “Thanks. You two are such gentlemen.” I said in such a sweet voice as I rolled my hair again. The boys looked mesmerized and they almost stumbled over their feet as I walked away. “Good job!” Nicole cried out, laughing at the boys’ expressions. Then, Nicole tried using the same method but the results weren’t as impactful. I smiled. When it was Christine’s turn, she bared her shoulder, taking off her sweatshirt and tied it around her waist. When she walked past the boys, she gave a flying kiss and all of them were looking in her direction. Anger built inside of me again. I hadn’t realized that Christine was such a good flirt. She would pose as a threat to me next time. “I must be wary of her.” I mumbled.

Chapter 1First dayI woke up with a startle. It was the worst nightmare I ever had. Just then, a shrieking voice broke the silence of the cold morning. “Alana! Get down for breakfast! You’re going to be late for school.” School. Immediately, I jumped off my bed and hopped to my table. I stared at the calendar. Summer was over. Today is the first day of high school. Shucks. I slammed my fist on the table. “Is everything alright? Time for breakfast.” A soft voice called out from behind. “Nothing, Rosalie. I’m just nervous. I’m going to get changed now.” I muttered. Then, she closed the door softly. I sighed. First day of high school was such an important day to me. Shaking my head, I pranced towards my closet. “Hmm, I need something attention-grabbing and pretty.” Pushing hangers of clothes from right to left and left to right, I managed to pick out a long-sleeve black shirt, a loosely tied pink tie and skinny jeans. “Not bad.” I mumbled, admiring myself in the mirror. “Alana!” the shrieking voice again. I quickly hung some chains to my jeans and placed a pair of Channel sunglasses on my hair. I combed my blond hair and then dragged my bag along the parquet flooring out of the room.
“Don’t rush me. I want to get everything right for the first day of school.” I called out to my mom as I walked down the stairs. “Ok. Ok. Now, here’s your breakfast.” She said as she whipped out a plate from the kitchen. “Alana? Do you want your milk warmed up?” Rosalie asked, peering from the kitchen. “I want orange juice.” I sulked as I stared at my food. “Mom? Why eggs and toast again?” “What else do you want my dear?” My father asked, his face hidden behind the newspaper. I dragged my feet towards the kitchen. I plucked two hotdogs from the fridge and a box of cereal. “Warm up these and put the cereal in cold milk.” I instructed my mom. Without saying a word, she turned on the microwave oven. Then, I turned to my sister. “Rosalie? Pack the chocolate chip cookies into my bag. I want them for lunch.” She nodded silently. Satisfied, I turned on the radio.
Breakfast was quiet, as usual, while I wolfed down my cereal. “Let’s go.” Rosalie said, slinging her backpack over her right shoulder. “Yes, it’s time. Alana, next time wear more decent clothes to school. Something like your sister would be good.” My mom nagged. I narrowed my eyes at my sister. She was just wearing a plain old green shirt and a denim skirt. “No big deal.” I muttered under my breath as I walked towards the door with my school bag.
The noisy engine roared to life as I stared wide-eye at the next door’s Volvo. So elegant, how nice if I had owned one. Turning to my sister, I asked. “Ask dad to get you a new car like that Volvo. This pathetic truck is ancient.” “But it really runs well.” Rosalie argued. “It can run better than that?” I said, gesturing at a nearby Mercedes. “Of course not. After all, dad can’t afford such a luxury.” “Very funny, Rosalie. Then how did Jackson get into boarding school It’s a luxury, you know?” My last sentence left her speechless. When we were approaching school, I ordered my sister to stop the truck. “I want to walk inside. Sitting in this truck is such an embarrassment. Stop the truck.” Rosalie did as instructed. She didn’t even bother to wave as she drove past.
